After a successful season 1 in 2023, The Apothecary Diaries season 2 trailer is here. It was posted on their official website. The awaited new season will start airing on January 10, 2025 and will run for 2 straight cours like Blue Box. Season 2 will contain 24 episodes just like the previous season.
Assistant Director Akinori Fudesaka of season 1 will be the new Director for season 2.
Meanwhile Norihiro Naganuma will be switching to head writer and series composition. Toho Animation Studio and OLM are still producing the series. Crunchyroll confirmed that season 2 will be available in their library in 2025.

Season 2 Trailer Breakdown
The trailer features the Opening Theme Hyakka Ryoran by Lilas Ikuta. She is a singer-songwriter, who also performed for YOASOBI with the stage name Ikura.
YOASOBI has done opening theme songs for many anime recently. However, this will be Ikuta’s first opening theme as a solo artist. “Because I have experienced firsthand the response to the first season, I am very honored to be in charge of the opening theme for the second season,” said Ikuta.
Along with a new theme song, the trailer revealed a new character. Shisui, another servant girl who is cheerful and talks a lot. Asami Seto will be the voice of Shisui.
About the Series
Natsu Hyuga originally published the series on Shosetsuka ni Naro. A Japanese website where authors can self-publish their work. A publisher, Shufunotomo, bought the series and published a single volume in 2012. Megumi Matsuda did the illustrations for the novel.
Shufunotomo begn publishing the series again in 2014. But this time Touko Shino was illustrating it. The publishers released it as a light novel in their Hero Bunko imprint.In 2017, a manga adaptation began. Itsuki Nanao started the adaptation with the help of Nekokurage with illustrations.
Synopsis
Maomao is a young woman trained in herbal medicine. She works as an apothecary in the red-light district. One day bandits kidnapped her and sold her as a servant for the Imperial palace.
Using her knowledge in medicine, Maomao attracts the attention of Jinshi, a handsome eunuch. Jinshi promotes her to a poison and food taste tester. However Jinshi also has other plans for Maomao. Soon enough Maomao is back to testing her skills and even solving mysteries within the palace.
