My personal must-watch anime are mostly romance anime. For some reason studios decided to release a lot of romances this Summer 2025.
I personally think all these anime on the list are a must-watch. I’m excited for all these anime to premiere.
So, if you’re wondering what’s worth watching, we’ve got you covered. Here’s the ultimate list of new anime you won’t want to miss this Summer 2025, most of which will be airing in July 2025.
Summer 2025 Anime Guide
Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku
Synopsis: Chidori High is a boys’ school that takes in the dregs of society with the lowest grades. Next door stands Kikyo Girls’ High, where the wealthy, high-class families send their precious daughters. Chidori second-year Rintaro, who has a fierce face but a gentle heart, is helping at his family’s patisserie when he meets a girl named Kaoruko.
The two hit it off right away…but this blissful peace is quickly disturbed when Rintaro discovers that Kaoruko is actually a student at Kikyo. Worse, she doesn’t seem to realize what a huge problem this really is! Will these two be able to forge a path for themselves, and sidestep the traps (metaphorical and literal) laid by their classmates?

If I had to pick my number 1 must-watch among the Summer Anime 2025 it would be Kaoru Hana. I’ve written about this manga many times before, and I think it’s the best ongoing romance manga right now. I’m excited to see the manga panels animated and coloured.
Grand Blue Dreaming Season 2
Synopsis: A new life begins for Kitahara Iori as he begins his college career near the ocean in Izu city, full of excitement for his new life. He will be moving into his Uncle’s diving store “Grand Blue.” There he finds the beautiful ocean, beautiful women, and men that love diving and alcohol. Will Iori be able to live his dream college life?

The Summer Hikaru Died
Synopsis: Two best friends living in a rural Japanese village: Yoshiki and Hikaru. Growing up together, they were inseparable… until the day Hikaru came back from the mountains, and was no longer himself. “Something” has taken over Hikaru’s body, memories, feelings… and everything they know begins to unravel.

Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus
Synopsis: Sakuta thought he’d already accomplished step one: Find Touko Kirishima. The next step was convincing her to help protect Mai, but that proved easier said than done. In the process, however, he makes a confusing discovery: There are multiple Touko Kirishimas! The Touko he knows may not actually be the person he’s looking for!
With clues from his friends’ prophetic dreams, he gets closer to figuring out exactly what danger awaits Mai, but he’ll have to sort through the fake Kirishimas and determine who’s the real deal before it’s too late…

This anime is probably the second I’m most excited for. It’s been seven years since the first season, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. I mentioned, in the article that I wrote on it, that I finished it in one sitting.
I’ve seen all the films so far as well. Light Novel readers say that this arc is the best one so far.
Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 4
Synopsis: Kazuya’s ready to confess with the lush paradise of Hawaii as a backdrop. But renting Chizuru for the dream trip turns into a war zone of love due to Ruka’s aggressive advances and Mami’s scheming.
Despite the chaos, this is Kazuya’s moment to bare his heart. Will his words reach Chizuru? And if they do, what will she even say?

Rent-a-Girlfriend Season 4 is my sleeper pick for the Summer Anime 2025. The show and manga get a lot of crap for being bad and dragged out, which I think is warranted.
However this specific arc is probably where the story changes the most. —In the manga this is around 300 chapters in. Thankfully the anime didn’t take 10 seasons to get to this arc.
My Dress-Up Darling Season 2
Synopsis: When Marin Kitagawa and Wakana Gojo met, they grew close over their love for cosplay. Through interacting with classmates and making new cosplay friends, Marin and Wakana’s world keeps growing.
New developments arise as Marin’s love for Wakana continues to be filled with endless excitement. In their ever-expanding world, Marin and Wakana’s story of cosplay and thrills continues!

Kaiju No.8 Season 2
Synopsis: With the highest kaiju-emergence rates in the world, Japan is no stranger to attacks by deadly monsters. Enter the Japan Defense Force, a military organization tasked with the neutralization of kaiju.
Kafka Hibino, a kaiju-corpse cleanup man, has always dreamed of joining the force. But when he gets another shot at achieving his childhood dream, he undergoes an unexpected transformation. How can he fight kaiju now that he’s become one himself?!
In the new season Kafka must face new challenges, new Kaiju, and… a new Captain?!

DANDADAN Season 2
Synopsis: Ghosts, monsters, aliens, teen romance, battles…and the kitchen sink! This series has it all! Takakura, an occult maniac who doesn’t believe in ghosts, and Ayase, a girl who doesn’t believe in aliens, try to overcome their differences when they encounter the paranormal!
In season 2 Okarun and Jiji have made a strange discovery, while Momo finds herself under attack! What mysterious encounters await them next?!

Secrets of the Silent Watch
Synopsis: Monica Everett, the Silent Witch, is the world’s only practitioner of Voiceless Magic, a veritable heroine who single-handedly fended off the Black Dragon of legend. However, the young prodigy is actually…super-duper shy! Yup, turns out she only learned Voiceless Magic to avoid speaking in public.
Ignorant of this, the Seven Sages have placed her on a top-secret mission to guard the Second Prince. Can Monica keep it together as she contends with both social interaction and the evils targeting the young royal?

Call of the Night Season 2
Synopsis: Ko overcomes his confusion about becoming a vampire and decides to “like” Nazuna, while Nazuna resolves to make Ko “fall in love” with her. Without understanding what “love” even is, the two of them spend their nights together in a frenzy.
Meanwhile, Detective Uguisu Anko is closing in with her plot to kill vampires, not just Nazuna. A vampire’s weakness is “anything they were attached to when they were human” and so they all try to get rid of this weakness before it’s too late. But, Nazuna has no memory of her human life.
What is Nazuna’s hidden past? Why did Anko start killing vampires? And what is the “secret” that Nazuna and Anko share? For Ko, Nazuna, Anko, a fun “late night” doesn’t end here… a new “night” begins!

Ready for All the Summer Anime 2025?
Of course this isn’t all the summer anime airing this year. This is a personal list of what I’m excited for. Like I mentioned in the beginning a lot of the heavy-hitters are romance this season.
Unfortunately I didn’t see any non-romance that caught my eye, other than The Summer Hikaru Died, Secrets of the Silent Witch and Kaiju No. 8.
SAKAMOTO Days Season 2 will be airing in July, if you liked season 1, not many people thought it was amazing or anything.
It probably makes up for the terrible romance we’ve had so far recently, other than Blue Box of course.
