Anime Pilgrimage

Pilgrimage guides by Japanese locals - so you can spend more time re-living your favorite series!

What is an Anime Pilgrimage, aka "seichi junrei"?

Seichi junrei (聖地巡礼) literally translates to ‘pilgrimage to sacred places’, which is fitting as that is exactly how real-world locations from our favorite anime series can feel. Sacred. As though there is a special, unwritten bond between the places that inspired the anime, and the emotional impact that the series had on us, the viewer.

Simply put, “seichi junrei” refers to a type of tourism where the intent is to visit real-world locations that served as inspiration for, or featured in, our favorite anime and pop-culture media. Here at Anime In Japan, we know how special these places are and what their emotional significance is to the series we love. That’s why we seek to develop in-depth pilgrimage guides and travel itineraries to help you plan your trip to Japan, so you can fulfill your own seichi junrei experience.
