DAN DA DAN Episode 7 recap

We start this DAN DA DAN Episode 7 recap with a first person view of ‘someone’ struggling while running on the streets. Then we return to the end of the last episode, with Acro-Silky, Okarun, Momo and Aira in the warehouse. We get another running scene as Acro-Silky chases Okarun around while he’s holding Aira. Acro-silky gets her granny perm tangled in the warehouse’s pillars.

Okarun takes out Acro-Silky with an all out headbutt attack, and Turbo Granny checks Aira for Okaruns golden ball. Turbo Granny then tells Momo and Okarun that Aira passed. They can’t believe it, and they try CPR on her while Momo uses her powers to massage Aira’s heart.

Acro-Silky gets back up and informs them that what they are doing won’t help Aira at all. She suggests that she will give Aira her aura. However, Momo doesn’t trust her straightaway. So in turn, Acro-Silky breaks her jaw so she can’t eat Aira again. If she lied, she allowed them to smash her head with a steel beam. But Turbo Granny says that Acro-Silky is telling the truth.

Momo still doesn’t trust her, but she doesn’t have any other way to save Aira. She asks Acro-Silky about her plan, and how to connect their auras. Once Momo uses her psychic powers and touches Acro-Silky’s aura we get to see her memories.

The flashback starts with her waking up from bed, going to work, and then coming back home. When she comes back she is greeted by her child with a smile and hug. Then we see a montage of Acro-Silky teaching her daughter ballet, all while trying to make money and provide for her child.

The story cuts to Acro-Silky getting hurt by a man, who is presumably a loan shark, in their own house. Acro-Silky’s daughter is watching this happen, all while crying. She gets pushed into a sliding door, and gets wounded by glass shards. The men leave with Acro-Silky’s daughter.

We then get the same scene as the start of the episode, someone struggling while running in the streets. It was Acro-Silky trying to catch the guys and get her daughter back. But she was unsuccessful. It cuts to a scene where she’s doing ballet, under the moonlight.

DAN DA DAN Episode 7 recap

We see Aira as a child go up to Acro-Silky and call her mommy. Acro-Silky remembers what she lost. She lost her child and thinks that Aira is her child.

We see some backstory to Aira, as she lost her mother at a young age. She didn’t understand what was going on yet.

We cut back to the present, and Momo wakes up crying. Aira comes back to life thanks to Acro-Silky’s aura, but since she gave away her aura she can’t continue being a yokai. She starts turning into dust, and apologizes to her child saying she could have been a better mother. Aira runs up and hugs her before she turns into nothing.

Thoughts on the Episode

I remember reading this chapter in the manga, and it was then that I understood that anything can happen in this manga. I remember reading a comment about DAN DA DAN, someone compared it to Regular Show from Cartoon Network. If you’ve ever seen that TV Show, you would know that anything can happen in that show, from normal episodes to those absurd ones.

DAN DA DAN is the same thing. This is only the start of those absurd episodes. This show is a top show of Fall 2024 for a reason and this DAN DA DAN Episode 7 makes it obvious.

Seeing Acro-Silky’s flashback / memory was heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. With barely any dialogue the visual storytelling was great. There was a part of the flashback montage that imitates a ballet twirl, which was amazing.

I’m not a parent myself, but I love my family and seeing that scene was heartbreaking. That scene was directed beautifully though. Acro-Silky tried so hard to provide for her child, as a single mother, and she really did everything. I’m sure as a parent you don’t think about getting your child taken away.

I said this in the last DAN DA DAN episode recap, but this may be the best episode so far. If every episode can top the previous one, this might crack the top 10 best anime of all time on everyone’s list.
