SAKAMOTO DAYS is a Netflix Anime exclusive adaptation of the manga with the same name. Netflix posted a video on their socials (now deleted as of writing this article) where they broke down and explained scenes from Season 1.
You can actually check out the video here. It is the first video embedded.
Netflix announced the release date alongside the behind-the-scenes breakdown. It will release SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2 in July 2025. This confirmation came with a short SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2 teaser that fans were quick to react to, although opinions remain divided.
Netflix Anime exclusives have a so-so track record recently. Moonrise and Devil May Cry may not be the worst anime out there, but they aren’t anything amazing either.
How Was SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 1?

I actually dropped the SAKAMOTO DAYS anime only two episodes in. In my initial articles, I thought that it could rival DANDADAN. I always wanted to read the manga but never got around to it.
As someone who hasn’t read the manga, the anime didn’t hook me in any way. I found the story in the first two episodes boring, despite the strong potential. The voice cast for the anime is filled with stars.
- Tomokazu Sugita (Taro Sakamoto) has voiced Gintoki Sakata from Gintama.
- Shimazaki, Nobunaga (Shin Asakura) voices Shanks from One Piece.
- Sakura, Ayane (Lu Shaotang) voiced Yotsuba Nakano from Quintessential Quintuplets.
The animation didn’t blow me away either, especially for a title that’s gained so much popularity. You may think it’s just my opinion.
However, a lot of fans online have the same sentiment. Here’s a reddit thread on the announcement of SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2. And here’s an article on ScreenRant about how SAKAMOTO DAYS isn’t anything impressive.
Should I have given it more episodes? I probably should have. I’ll likely go back and watch everything when I’m bored and don’t have anything else to watch.
Does This Netflix Anime Deserve Its Second Season?
SAKAMOTO DAYS getting a second season so quickly is a bit surprising. Especially for a Netflix anime. While the manga is incredibly popular, the anime’s reception has been mixed. Still, the announcement of SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2 means the show found its audience (or they were already working on it and they just have to put it out).
The new season, set for a release date in July 2025, might address some of the early pacing and animation issues. But with director Masaki Watanabe returning as the director, there probably won’t be any huge changes.

Should You Watch SAKAMOTO DAYS?
Is SAKAMOTO DAYS really that bad? Obviously With SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2 Netflix release looming and fans of the manga still backing the story, the series has another shot at proving itself. The SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2 cast and (hopefully) improved production could be what turns this show from forgettable to fantastic.
