It’s difficult to pick just 10 anime for the best Anime of the Year 2024. But here is a personal list that also takes into consideration the impact and reaction it had on the anime community.
Here are the best Anime of The Year 2024:
10. Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines
12 Episodes
Originally a light novel, Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines took Summer 2024 by storm. Many fans fell in love with the characters. The concept of the anime is unique as well. All the female main characters don’t get with the person that they like. The story revolves around the rejection of these girls and how Nukumizu got roped into all this.
Synopsis
The popular girls in Kazuhiko Nukumizu’s class seem to have it all—good looks, lots of friends, and the hearts of all their crushes! Except…not?! Upon witnessing the shocking turn of events where the popular Anna Yanami gets friend-zoned by the boy who has crushed on her since childhood, Kazuhiko starts noticing all the fan favorites are getting similarly turned down by the boys they like. Surrounded by heartbroken heroines, can he keep their spirits up and make sure they don’t give up? Or is this a rom-com world where the girls never get their dream guy?
9. HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle
1 hour 26 Minutes
After 4 years, HAIKYU!! returned this year with a film. This match is versus Nekoma High School, an old rival of Karasuno. From online talks I’ve seen that a lot of scenes from the manga were removed. I haven’t gotten around to reading the manga so I wasn’t aware.
However, the film was still great. We posted a full review here.
8. Look Back
57 Minutes
Another anime film that made my top 10 best anime of the year 2024. Look Back is a manga that Tatsuki Fujimoto wrote and illustrated. I have written a full review of the film here.
7. Oshi no Ko Season 2
13 Episodes
After a successful first season, Oshi no Ko Season 2 did not drop the ball. The story gets more dramatic in this season in my opinion.
Synopsis
Aqua and Kana land roles in the stage adaptation of the popular manga Tokyo Blade. Performing alongside them is Aqua’s girlfriend Akane. She struggles as her character doesn’t appear in the manga as much.
Aqua has personal reasons for doing the stage adaptation. He wants to get closer to director Toshirou Kindaichi to find any information about his mother Ai.
6. Kaiju No.8
12 Episodes
This is the one anime I haven’t watched on this list. However I see this anime talked about all the time, even the manga. When I get the time I will be watching and or reading this.
Synopsis
Kaiju No. 8 is an action anime that follows Kafka. His dream ever since he was a child was to join the Defense Force. They are the military that fight monsters called ‘kaijuu’. However Kafka failed the entrance exam multiple times. He instead works for a kaijuu clean up crew.
After a monster flies into Kafka’s mouth, he gains the ability to transform into a kaijuu. The Defense Force names him Kaiju No.8 and he joins them secretly.
5. Delicious in Dungeon
24 Episodes
Delicious in Dungeon or more known as Dungeon Meshi is a comedy adventure based on the manga of the same name. It’s a hilarious anime that catches you off guard at first because of its uniqueness. There is a manga that came out recently that kind of has the same story element called Drama Queen.
Fans are awaiting for the release of season 2 which will most likely be in 2026.
Synopsis
The knight Laios embarks on a journey with his talented group to recover the treasure hidden in the ruins of an ancient kingdom beneath the graveyard of a secluded village. However, they are defeated by a Flame Dragon, which devours Laios’s younger sister, Farin. While the group manages to escape the dungeon using a teleportation spell, they are forced to leave all their gear behind and are left without any money. Overcome with sadness, the party disbands. Now, Laios must return to the dungeon alone, racing against time to rescue Farin before she is consumed by the dragon within a month.
4. Girls Band Cry
13 Episodes
I think this was a surprise for many anime fans. Girls Band Cry is an anime original that was produced using CGI, which is something that does not have the best rep in anime. A lot of anime fans would skip anime because it’s done with CGI instead of the regular animation.
However, Girls Band Cry is done really well. The animation is smooth, the characters have great facial expressions and more.
Girls Band Cry is an anime that focuses on music, and the music is really good. You can listen to the official songs on their YouTube Channel.
3. Blue Box
24 Episodes
Blue Box isn’t finished airing yet, however the first cour is done airing. A lot of manga fans have been waiting for this anime since its announcement back in 2023. I was one of those fans, and thankfully the anime lived up to the hype.
2. Solo Leveling
12 Episodes
The hit manhwa coming from South Korea finally got an anime this year. The franchise also got an anime film titled Solo Leveling: ReAwakening. With the second season releasing soon, the hype for the manhwa is at an all time high.
1. DANDADAN
12 Episodes
The best anime of 2024 is most definitely DANDADAN. Everything from the story to the characters and art are close to perfect. I’m sure a lot of fans will agree as well. Here are a couple of episode reviews we’ve done: my personal favourite episode and episode 4.
