DAN DA DAN recap episode 4

1st Half

Ayase Momo and Okarun return to the tunnel where Turbo Granny first possessed Okarun. They find Turbo Granny’s giant head blocking their path, and when they try to escape, another giant head appears behind them.

Ayase throws baseball bats at one head, but it swallows them. Okarun asks Ayase to release the curse, but Turbo Granny takes it back, leaving him powerless. Ayase then remembers her grandmother’s advice about taunting ghosts and challenges Turbo Granny to a game of tag. The giant heads shrink back to her petite form, and she accepts the challenge.

As they run, Turbo Granny quickly captures Ayase. Okarun tries to help her but struggles. Turbo Granny then targets Okarun, explaining that Ayase didn’t specify how she should count. As she reaches for him, he thinks of Ayase, and Turbo Granny begins to consume her.

Ayase, using her powers without sight, crushes Turbo Granny’s true form from inside Okarun. Despite the pain, Turbo Granny charges, but Ayase holds firm, allowing Okarun to regain control. Turbo Granny then turns into a small snake stuck to him.

Okarun, feeling strong ties to Ayase, tackles Turbo Granny and bites her. She realizes she can only stop him by possessing him, but first, she must remove his clothing. After struggling with him, Turbo Granny questions whether he’s connected to a “sorcerer.”

When Turbo Granny tries to eat Ayase again, she is suddenly halted by intense pain. Ayase reveals her mastery of her powers and crushes Turbo Granny from within Okarun. Even though Turbo Granny charges, Ayase maintains her grip, letting Okarun take control as Turbo Granny turns into a snake.

2nd Half

As Okarun’s strength fades, Ayase leads them into a bathhouse to slow down the giant crab pursuing them. However, the crab destroys the building, making patrons think it’s an explosion. Cornered, Okarun panics, but Ayase breaks a water pipe, releasing boiling water that immobilizes the crab, allowing them to escape.

Near the Shono City border, they face a mob of people possessed by spirits summoned by Turbo Granny. She taunts them, claiming her power comes from her territory. With zombies behind them and the giant crab ahead, Ayase urges Okarun to use his powers despite the risks. As he transforms, they briefly hold hands, ignoring Turbo Granny’s insults.

Turbo Granny then attacks Okarun, breaking through Ayase’s defense. With the crab and zombie mob closing in, Turbo Granny fuses with the spirit, becoming a monstrous creature. She challenges them to escape, teasingly offering a head start. Ayase confidently responds that it will only take one second.

After Turbo Granny is defeated, several young girls emerge from the explosion, shocking Ayase. As Okarun passes out, Ayase pulls him off the train, watching the ashes of Turbo Granny fade. Okarun wakes in a panic, but Ayase reassures him they’ve won.

That night, Okarun joins Ayase and her grandmother for a crab dinner. After some playful arguing over crab meat, Okarun offers them his portion. As they say goodbye, a sense of unease lingers. Before he leaves, Ayase cheerfully says, “See you tomorrow,” leaving Okarun touched by their new friendship.

Does It Get Better From Here?

DAN DA DAN has been a must-watch this Fall 2024 Season. I’ve also reviewed the pilot episode for DAN DA DAN. I mentioned that I read only around 15 chapters.

Since then I’ve read up until chapter 70. There are chapters that I can’t wait to see animated. I actually think the next episode will be even better than this one. From what I remember reading.

You can catch DAN DA DAN on Crunchyroll and Netflix
