The streaming platform Crunchyroll, held its annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2025 edition last Sunday, May 25. A live ceremony and event was held at Grand Prince Hotel Shin Takanawa. Voting ended last April 14, 2025.
The ceremony was also streamed to Crunchyrolls official YouTube channel and Twitch account.
For the third year in a row Sally Amaki and Jon Kabira co-hosted the Crunchyroll Anime Awards show. The winners of each category were announced by celebrity anime fans such as Gaten Matarazzo and Finn Wolfhard of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things.
Fans were treated to live performances from Creepy Nuts, FLOW and LiSA. The Creepy Nuts performed their hit song “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born,” from MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES. FLOW performed “DAYS” as it was the 20th anniversary of Eureka Seven. LiSA performed three songs: “gurenge”, “Datte Atashino Hero”, & “crossing field”.

Are the Crunchyroll Anime Award 2025 Winners Justified?

I think most of the winners are justified. I wouldn’t go out and say that there were anime that were ‘robbed’ of a win, but there were questionable winners.
Best Romance and Best Original Anime are not who I thought was going to win. GIRLS BAND CRY was infinitely better than Ninja Kamui in my opinion.
I have no idea how it won Best Original Anime, I remember I dropped Ninja Kamui half way through. The story didn’t make any sense to me, and the best thing about the anime is the animation.
For Best Romance, I really thought Dangers in my Heart Season 2 was going to win. I love Blue Box as much as the next person, but Dangers in my Heart Season 2 is amazing. I recommend you watch both seasons, it does start slow however.
Solo Leveling’s Historic Sweep
Solo Leveling emerged as the night’s biggest winner, making history by securing nine awards, the most ever won by a single series in one year at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
The series clinched the coveted Anime of the Year, Best New Series, Best Action Anime, Best Score, Best Ending Sequence, and Best Main Character for Sung Jinwoo.
Its sweeping success underscores the series’ massive popularity and critical acclaim, highlighting its compelling storytelling and international resonance.
Attack on Titan Wins Global Impact Award
From Crunchyroll “The Global Impact Award celebrates visionary creators and groundbreaking works that have left an indelible mark on culture, history and the hearts of audiences around the world.”
Attack on Titan was an anime that ran from 2014 to 2023. The anime deserves the first inaugural Global Impact Award. I’m not sure if this award will have a winner every year, we would run out of winners quickly and I think it would diminish the meaning of the award.
