Blue Box recap of the recent two episodes, five and six. It’s a top Fall 2024 anime, and a lot of the manga readers have been patiently waiting for an adaptation for a while.
You can stream Blue Box on Netflix every Thursday or Friday depending on your location.
Blue Box Recap Episode 5: Aquarium
Continuing from the previous episode in the singles match between Taiki and Kishi. Of course Taiki wins, and he wins a date with Chinatsu. After the badminton match, Chinatsu texts Taiki and asks him out to the aquarium.
Taiki and Chinatsu have a great time at the aquarium, looking at the animals, hugging mascots, and taking pictures. While they’re having fun, Taiki keeps wondering why Chinatsu invited him in the first place.
Toward the end of the date, Chinatsu said that she wanted to talk about something. It seemed like she was about to confess her feelings, but then she said, “I’m sorry.” Chinatsu was apologizing for something she said in Episode 4. She still felt bad about telling Taiki he could take it easy with badminton because he had two more years of high school left.
The situation cleared up quickly, Taiki reassured her that he wasn’t offended. They also shared a moment when Taiki asked Chinatsu to send him a cute emoji of the aquarium’s penguin mascot if she ever wanted to talk.
Towards the end of the episode, Hina bumps into Chinatsu at the clinic. Hina wingman’s Taiki, she talks about all the things he’s done for her. It starts to rain, so Chinatsi lends Hina her umbrella and they go their separate ways. However, Chinatsu left her phone at the clinic and Hina followed her to give it back. The episode ends with Hina seeing Chinatsu enter the Inomata household (Taiki’s House).
Thoughts on the Episode
A lot of people have been waiting for Taiki’s and Chinatsu’s relationship to grow. With them finally living together, this date took their relationship to the next level. I wanted to see the aquarium date episode animated one of the first. I wrote a quick review of the manga you can check out here.
On the flipside Hina finally (?) realizes her feelings for Taiki or maybe she’s just confused. For any Hina and Taiki shippers, you’re going to feel for Hina. It’s an anime classic wherein the childhood friend loses, which if you’re familiar with, you probably weren’t expecting Hina to ‘win’.
Blue Box Recap Episode 6: Wish Me Luck
The episode continues with Hina hiding from Chinatsu and Taiki. But, she eventually has the courage to confront the two of them and she demands an explanation. Taiki brings her inside and he explains the entire situation to her.
The rest of the episode, Hina seems bothered by it. She actually cries thinking about Chinatsu and Taiki. She overthinks her gymnastic routines, which leads to a lot of unusual mistakes.
There’s a quick inner monologue that she has, and she says that she should take a break from being close friends with Taiki. Since if Chinatsu sees them being close, she might back off, and that would just make Taiki sad. It would also go against her promise of helping wingman Taiki. With nationals coming up, this was a convenient excuse for her to focus on herself.
Unfortunately, later on Hina bumps into one of the boys from the badminton team and falls on her ankle. We’re led to believe that she twisted or sprained her ankle. Of course, Taiki is there to help her walk to the clinic. Hina, however, doesn’t want his help because she’s worried about Chinatsu seeing them.
Taiki scolds her for thinking about something trivial when she’s the one who’s hurt. He tells her that she should prioritize herself sometimes. When they get to the clinic and the nurse checks on her ankle, she says it’s totally fine.
The episode ends with Chinatsu and Taiki at home. Taiki casually mentions Hina, and Chinatsu has a weird reaction that only the audience can see. It’s something similar to Hina’s reaction when Taiki mentions Chinatsu.
Thoughts on the Episode
It was nice to see that the ‘backing off’ of Hina lasted only this episode. It could have gone for multiple episodes, but it ended quickly. We see that the girls are wary of the other, and what they are in Taiki’s life. I feel like nothing major happened in this episode, it felt more filler to me. But we do understand Hina more and what she feels.
