About Kaoru Hana
Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku, or The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, is a romantic comedy manga. Saka Mikami writes and illustrates it. Another Kodansha serialization, this time it’s published on their Magazine Pocket website and app.
Synopsis
The plot revolves around students of Chidori High and their neighboring school Kikyo Girls’ High. Chidori is a ‘low-class’ all boys school, while Kikyo is a prestigious all girl school. The students do not like each other.
One day, Rintaro Tsumugi, a fierce-looking but gentle giant from Chidori, is helping at his family’s patisserie. He then encounters a customer by the name of Kaoruko Waguri. He notices that Kaoruko is a bit sad, and strikes up a conversation. Rintaro enjoys his time with Kaoruko, as she doesn’t judge him for his appearance. But then Rintaro makes the discovery that Kaoruko is actually a student at Kikyo.
This is the beginning of a love story of two students despite the reputation of their schools and students.

What I Like About the Kaoru Hana Manga
Art Style
The art style is like nothing else. Seeing this art style animated will be a pleasure. Hopefully the animation will be just as good as the art.
Story
A cliché story troupe, a ‘forbidden’ love of sorts. However this is just one part of the plot.
Additionally, the other part of this story is the personal growth of all the characters. Throughout the story you will meet the characters / friend group. You’ll come to learn their backstory, and why they want to grow and change.
Characters
You’ll fall in love with the characters as well. The group is a mix of everything, from the quiet smart people to the loud airheads. Surprisingly they all get their turn in the spotlight, and you actually learn about their characters.
As mentioned you will get backstory on their characters and why their personality turned out that way. Writers usually do not flesh out their side characters. But Saka Mikami fleshes out most of the recurring characters, and to do so they all get their own chapters.
What I Thought Could Have Been Better
Nitpicking
There only isn’t anything that I think could be better. As of writing this there are 126 chapters, and I think the story so far is amazing.
If I could nitpick on something, it would be there is no major conflict so far in the manga. Of course there’s the overarching conflict of the relationship between the two schools, but that is it.
The conflicts that do come up don’t last very long. For example, in one chapter a conflict arises, but in the same chapter it gets resolved.
Would I Recommend Watching / Reading it?
The manga community considers the Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku manga to be the best RomCom out right now. Fans of the genre always recommend the manga.
I recommend reading this manga, it is the best RomCom I’ve read and the story isn’t finished. If you have not read it, and you can wait until next year, it might be a good idea to go into it blind. This new romance anime will be 100% worth watching.
If you are into the romance genre check out another romance manga that recently got an anime adaptation, Yakuza Fiancé.
